Quilt
pickled plum
pickled plum
66" x 51"
The soft shades of pale beige, peach, and plum - always transport me back to Japan, reminding me of the changing hues of the Umeboshi plums [梅干] my grandmother made by hand. This quilt mirrors that gentle transformation with every block infused with memories stitched from the past.
At the heart of each block, we’ve added an unexpected circle—a tribute to the umeboshi plum itself—offering a fresh, vibrant spin on the traditional American courthouse quilt block. More than a nod to heritage, this quilt echoes the patience and care of making umeboshi plums—each stitch is a reminder of the care passed down through generations, connecting the past with the present.
Umeboshi (noun) \ü-mā-ˈbō-shē\
A traditional Japanese pickled fruit made from ume (closer to an Asian apricot than a plum). The fruit is salted and sun-dried, resulting in a sour, salty flavor. Commonly used in rice dishes and bento boxes, umeboshi is a long-standing Japanese tradition, passed down through generations, symbolizing care and preservation.
NOTE: 'pickeled plum' is a Throw size quilt, entirely Hand-stitched with Sashiko-style thread.

Care
Care
• Gentle machine wash in cold water on a delicate cycle, or hand wash.
• Line dry or use a low heat setting in the dryer.
• Avoid bleach and harsh detergents.
Note:If you notice a loose thread, gently test the tension by pulling slightly. If the thread doesn’t easily come out, carefully snip it at the surface with sharp scissors. Avoid yanking or breaking the thread by hand to prevent damage.
Folding and Storage:
Fold your quilt loosely to avoid creasing, and store it in a cool, dry place. Use a breathable cotton bag or pillowcase to protect the fabric. Avoid plastic storage containers, which can trap moisture and lead to mildew.
